After a satisfying dinner from Sushi Yu, Martha and I went to Terrace Bagels to stock up on some of Brooklyn's favorite breakfast food. Upon arriving at home, I went to put them in the cupboard and realized that I still had a few left over from the last batch I bought. Antics ensued:

Note: This time I only bought half a dozen.

I'm consistently amazed by Randall Monroe's ability to invent clever fictions in XKCD that ultimately wind up weaving their way into the (admittedly already thin) fabric of Internet reality. First, there were the random ones: Cory Doctorow in a cape, Richard Stallman's katana. Then the author himself got into the game, hosting comic-inspired sites here and there, like WetRiffs.com and chess on roller coasters. Arguably the most impressive example, though, is the recent meetup in a Cambridge park attended by hundreds (but sadly not myself) who, apparently without any other motivation, showed up at a date, time and location that was mentioned in a strip, just for the heck of it.

I found another one today that, while not exactly based in fiction, is still pretty cool: A Homeland Security-sponsored research project with the purpose of mapping the Internet got the idea for its data visualization algorithm from XKCD's map of the IPv4 spectrum. Be sure to check out the photos of their printout of the map (and their prideful pushpin-mark at its 'center').

All further proof that nerdy-as-hell is the new cooler-than-cool.

(Any examples I'm forgetting?)

Interesting item in the Adium Beta 12 changelog this morning:
  • Recipe for french toast:
    1. Get into vehicle.
    2. Go to location that sells french toast.
    3. Order french toast.
    4. Enjoy.
What's weirder is, it showed up in the upgrade window within Adium, but it's not in the changelog on their site.

I kind of want french toast now. Conspiracy?!

Following up on my previous post (now that YouTube is online again)... behold:

The star is Tokyo, Alexis' cat. You may remember her from my road trip adventure.
