Hi!

There are a lot of other places where I post things lately. I'm trying to get in the habit of cross-posting. Thus, here is a video that I put on YouTube this morning:

It is also posted on my Barbarian Group blog and the Meerkat Media blog. Other fun things are in those places too! And now you know.

Eight days, four national parks, 13 cities and towns in four states, 50 hours of rail travel (and 6 hours of air travel), 1,700 miles of driving, and about 1,500 almost 2,000 pictures. It was pretty fucking awesome.

I'm going to post the worthy photos in small chunks, I think—hopefully over the course of the next week or two—so be sure to check my Flickr often if you're curious.

And the weather turned out to be awesome. You should go look at some pictures. These are my favorites:

Team Bruce Willis, part of Nemasket River Canoe Trip, originally uploaded by iandavid.
I had the privilege yesterday of participating in a canoe race down the mighty Nemasket River in Lakeville, MA. It was easily one of the most insane adventures I've ever had, and I'm sure Max and Sal will agree. The river was unusually high, making it both fast and dangerous, and we (and many other of the 35 boats on the river with us) capsized many times over. By the end of the day we were all exhausted, and glad to be alive. It was totally worth it, though, and I'm looking forward to doing it again next year.

Obviously there's a lot more to the story, but I'm too tired to write about it now. Check out the Flickr photoset I posted of pics from the waterproof disposable I was carrying, plus some digitals from my regular camera (which came along in the dry bag). And if you ask nicely next time you see me, I may recount what it felt like to swim down a rapids in pursuit of a runaway canoe.

Kindness, part of the Dogtown set, originally uploaded by iandavid.

On Saturday, Jacks and Bill and Erin and I went to visit Dogtown, MA. It's an abandonded town between Gloucester and Rockport that's dotted with these "inspirational" rock carvings that were made during the depression. We got eaten alive by musquitos, but aside from that it was a fun adventure.

I originally found out about Dogtown through its Wikipedia article, which has a decent history of the town as well as some links to other sites with pictures.
